Beginning Basics

Winter Beginning Basics sessions are over -- stay tuned for spring classes or schedule a private lesson to get knitting right away!

Beginning Knitting in the Round
with Nancy Blossom - Tuesdays, 4:00-6:00pm, $45
   2 Sessions: February 7th and 14th

Learn to tackle projects in the round with an introduction to circular and double point needles.  You will be joining, knitting and learning to decrease in the round as you complete a hat in these sessions.

 

Beginning Knitting - Mitts
with Nancy Blossom - Tuesdays, 4:00-6:00pm, $45
   2 Sessions: February 21st and February 28th

If you have made that first hat and are ready to try something a little more complicated, join this class to tackle a simple mitten or wristlet pattern.  In this class you will work with finer yarn and experiment with different approaches knitting in the round approaches:  Magic Loop, knitting on double points and knitting on two circulars.

Beginning Crochet
with Hannah Cuviello - Saturday 10:00-12:00pm, $20
   1 Session: February 18th

If you are ready to try your hand at crochet come learn the basics in this class.  You will be surprised how easy and fun it is!

Easy Knitting Headwarmers
with Nancy Blossom - Monday 2:00-4:00pm, $20
   1 Session: February 13th

Technique:  increases and decreases.  Just in time for the warmer days on the slopes, these ear warmers/headbands are quick to knit and fun to wear.  Practice your basic knitting skills while you learn to add some shape to anything you want to make.


DROP-IN KNITTING

Drop in once for help with a special technique, to learn a new stitch, or to get started on that special project in your stash.  Or buy a multiple-session pass and come to get the help you need all the way through the project you pick.  



TECHNIQUE CLASSES

Socks Technique Series, $45
with Hannah Cuviello - Saturday, 1:00-3:00pm
   2 Sessions: February 11th, 25th

Sock techniques will introduce top down sock construction. Project sessions guide you through construction of a pair of socks that you choose.

 

Gramps Cardigan, $20 for first session, $60 for series
with Leslie Huppin - Wednesday, 1:00-3:00pm
   3 Sessions: February 8th, 15th and 29th.

Kate Oates has a great sweater designed to remind you of the one your grandpa wore around the house.  A true comfort project, the pattern comes in both child and adult sizes and if you don’t want to tackle a garment there is also a Gramps Hat in adult sizes.  Take one session and make the Gramps Hat or join Leslie for the series and make a sweater!  Come to the first session with the ribbing and first row completed (for either project).  Leslie will introduce the techniques needed to complete either project in the first session.  In the series she will continue with guidance for completing the more complicated sweater pattern.

   
Knitted Embellishments, $20 per session
with Nancy Blossom - Wednesday, 1:00-3:00pm
  1 to 3 Sessions: offered January 18th, 25th and February 1st.

Have you noticed the great knitted and felted flowers popping up on hats, coats, sweaters and headbands?  Take one technique class to learn the basics behind these embellishments or take the series to complete multiple types of knitted embellishments.  You can finish your project as a pin or sew it on to your favorite jacket.

Saturdays 3:00-5:00pm

Stop by during these open knitting times to join other AGY knitters in an informal knitting group. No sign-up necessary, all skill levels are welcome!


STITCH ‘N B*TCH

Thursdays 6:30-8:00pm

In the true spirit of the famous text, last fall we started a group to relax and knit on Thursday evenings.  It has been so fun we are continuing it through the winter.  Participants sign-up to host a wine night with drinks and snacks.

 

MORE INFORMATION ON CLASSES AT A GRAND YARN

Registration: Class registration begins immediately on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Pre-payment is required to secure your spot in the class.  You can register in person or over the phone.  Supplies are not included in the class fee.

Cancellation: You may cancel up to one week before the first class for a full refund.  Cancellations made within a week of the first class will not be refunded.  You can transfer class fees to apply to another class within the same season if you let us know a week prior to the original class.  If a class does not fill to the minimum students, we reserve the right to cancel the class and will issue a full refund.

Student Discounts: Students receive a non-transferable, 10% storewide discount at the time of class meeting.

Skill Level:  Do not be intimidated!  We will be happy to help you decide if a class is appropriate, please feel free to ask!

Private Lessons: If you can not make one of the class times, there is a specific skill or project you want to learn, or you work better one-on-one, consider a private lesson.  Our teachers are available for lessons on any skill or project you have in mind.  Lessons are $25 per hour for one person or $35 per hour for two people.

Special Group Classes: Ask us about the possibility of arranging your own group for specific classes.
