third welcome to the lake project--a summer cowl

It's hard to believe we are almost to August and our final Welcome to the Lake Knit Along project.  For the last month, as we move towards the start of school and the sneaking in of cooler weather, we are going to tackle a perfect transitional piece--the cowl.

First up, I think this worsted weight Simple Sprinkle by Veera Välimäki is a colorful piece that has both the pizzazz of summer and the functionality of fall.  The whimsical stripe pattern is a great way to use up extra worsted weight scraps and incorporate them with a fun, new yarn.  I've been wanting to try Three Irish Girls Glenhaven Worsted and I am going to use it as one of my main colors with a sprinkling of leftover scraps.

Next up, this stunning lace piece has been in my queue for a long time...and I'm always happy to have a reason to finally get to a long loved project!  Plus, what could be more "summertime" for the warm sunny August days than a mixed drink with tonic...Tonic Water by Thea Colman

Finally, a cowl that is a true transition to fall is this City Creek Cowl by Susan Lawrence.  The cables and worsted weight yarn almost beckons in a little chill to the air...

All of these cowl names incorporate water.  It is not necessary that water be part of the pattern name to count for the August KAL project but it seemed like a fitting theme to finish out our time by the lake!  As always, knit along project yarn will be discounted 20% off through the first week of the month.  Post your finished projects on our Ravelry thread (here) to enter to win prizes!
