A Grand Yarn was
founded in the fall of 2004 by Mary
Lindeblad. Mary learned to knit as a
girl and had knit on and off for many
years. When she was visiting her
daughter Ingrid in Boston one chilly
fall in 2002, she happened upon a lovely
little yarn shop and really got inspired
to throw herself fully into knitting
again, getting Ingrid enthusiastic about
the craft along the way. After visiting
full-service yarn shops around the
country, Mary felt that Spokane needed
its own little yarn haven. Ingrid and
her husband moved back to Spokane to
help launch the business, and A Grand
Yarn was born. Since then, Mary and her
staff have strived to make A Grand Yarn
a place where knitters and non-knitters
alike can stop in, find wonderful
products, learn a few skills, and sit
and relax. And the shop is truly a
family affair: Mary's husband, John,
does the books, woodworking, and even
some cleaning; daughter Ingrid writes
the newsletter, maintains the web site,
teaches, and knits models; Mary's mother
Jane knits models and sews knitting
accessories like bags and needle cases;
Mary's granddaughter Emily works over
the summer; and Ingrid's mother-in-law, Kappy, knits models. Of course, the
family of A Grand Yarn also includes our
friendly and knowledgeable staff: Stacy
Kuhling, Leslie Huppin, Melanie Jackson,
Gerda Porter, Glena Watson, Kati Carl, and Deborah Reich.
